2013 Baraga Co. Lake Trout Festival is Saturday
The Eighth Annual Baraga County Lake Trout Festival will take place Saturday, June 8, to coincides with Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend–no fishing license is necessary. (In case of inclement weather, the Festival will be held Sunday, June 9)
Baraga County has been named the Lake Trout Capital of the Great Lakes and the free Festival will combine the Keweenaw Classic Fishing Tournament with family-oriented events such as Kids’ Carnival, “Little Miss Superior” contest, Kids’ Fishing Pond,
Pie-Eating contest, Beach Volleyball tournament, Junk Art contest, cribbage tournament , the Firemen’s Street Dance and the Pequaming Run, Half-marathon and 2 bicycle races sponsored by the Fitness Center of Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
Food for the entire family will include a pancake breakfast, food and drink booths, including coffee and baked goods.
The fishing tournament will have separate classes for lake trout and salmon with many cash and merchandise awards as well as door prizes.
Last year’s 1st-place winners in each category took home almost $1200. The person who catches a specially tagged fish wins an additional $1,000. All events will take place in the Waterfront Park and Marina in downtown L’Anse.
