Accidental death in Norway Township
A lawn–mowing accident has claimed the life of a Dickinson County man.
It happened at about 4:15 Wednesday afternoon in Norway Township. Troopers from the Iron Mountain post of the Michigan State Police responded to a report of a man trapped under a mower in the river.
Police say Melvin Miner died when the riding lawn mower he was operating slid off the edge of a river bank and flipped over, pinning the man under the mower in about two feet of water. Despite life-saving measures being performed, Miner was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Michigan State Police were assisted on the scene by the Norway Police Department, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Natural Resources, the Norway Fire Department, North Alert, and a Beacon Ambulance.
