Negaunee Male Chorus to perform Saturday
The Negaunee Male Chorus has been singing for 83 years, and on Saturday the group is performing a concert called “American Way”.
The concert will feature songs that celebrate America, and there will even be a band to accompany the chorus for certain songs.
“They’re mostly American songs,” Rob Veale, a member of the chorus said. “We’re doing a real nice rendition of “Shenandoah”. I think my favorite is “The Creation”. We have a few gospel songs in there, and a few songs celebrating the independence of America.”
“Anybody that comes to one of our concerts, they’ll leave entertained,” Bill Schrandt, another member of the chorus, said. “They leave uplifted because we do have some spiritual numbers that we do.”
“And, we do an assortment of music. We just don’t stand up there at attention and sing, we fool around a bit and we lighten up. We have a good time and the audience has a good time.”
The concert is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the W.C Peterson Auditorium at Ishpeming High School. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds go to the Negaunee Male Chorus for operations and to help purchase music.
