Grass fire in Manistique Twp.
The Manistique Public Safety Department and Volunteer Fire Officers responded to a grass fire in Manistique Township Wednesday morning.
Officers were called out to the fire at 11:17 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene officers, saw the fire was five acres in size and rapidly growing. The fire had spread to a woodland area at 5907W North Kendall Road.
The Manistique Public Safety Department says after an investigation, it was determined that the fire had originated in a burn pit on Gerald Weber’s property at 5907 North Kendall Road. The fire had spread to property owned by William Carlson, Weber’s neighbor.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with no damage to property or houses. They were on scene for over three hours, putting out hotspots and flare-ups in burned area.
No injuries were reported.
