Runaway teens arrested in stolen car
Two runaway teenagers were arrested after hitting a tree in a stolen vehicle in Marquette early Tuesday morning.
The accident happened shortly after midnight.
Police say they saw a vehicle run a red light at the intersection of McClellan Avenue and Washington Street. After officers tried to stop the car, the vehicle turned onto Mildred Street, where it stopped after hitting a tree.
A 16-year-old girl, the driver of the vehicle, and a 17-year-old-girl, a passenger, were both arrested.
Both girls had been drinking alcohol, and police learned the vehicle had been stolen in Marquette.
The 16-year-old is in the Marquette County Youth Home. She is charged with Operating while Impaired, Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, and Driving Without a License.
The 17-year-old is in the Marquette County jail. She is accused of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, Minor in Possession of Alcohol, and Resisting and Obstructing Police.
