UPCGC debuts new fundraiser
The Upper Peninsula Celebrity Golf Classic doesn’t tee off until June, but preparations are in full swing.
One new aspect of the golf classic will allow people to make donations online in the names of local U.P. celebrities that are participating.
“Many charities around the country have been using the web technology and social networking to have individuals help raise money,” Mary Dowling, Director of Development of the Beacon House said, “and this is something we implemented a couple of years ago, but we have just used it for a few different things, but we thought ‘What a cool idea’.”
All money raised from the UPCGC goes to the Beacon House. This year the goal is to raise $250,000.
“It’s been a blessing to be part of it,” Chris Lenahen, a USOEC weightlifter who was participated in the golf tournament for the past two years. “And to support an organization like the Beacon House has been a great run.”
“We get overwhelmed every year with the support for the U.P. Celebrity Golf Classic,” Dowling said. “The communities of the Upper Peninsula are so incredible and generous.”
