U.P. veterans greeted by Congressman Benishek in D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC: Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after greeting World War II veterans from Northern Michigan at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. The veterans’ visit to the nation’s capital was part of the Honor Flight Network:
“I was once again deeply honored to speak with many World War II veterans from Northern Michigan on the National Mall this morning. From Omaha Beach to Iwo Jima, these brave men left their families to fight for America’s freedom and to rid the world of tyranny so many years ago. All Americans are sad to lose so many of our World War II heroes each day. It is wonderful that due to the volunteers in the Honor Flight Network, many of our veterans are able to visit the memorial that commemorates their selflessness and bravery. These vets put their own lives on the line so that others in the world had a chance at freedom. Our nation remains forever in their debt.”
