Reception honors WW II Veterans

The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight departs Wednesday morning from the Delta County Airport, but on Tuesday night there was a special reception to honor veterans.

The Honor Flight Reception was held in Escanaba for the nearly 80 Upper Michigan World War II veterans who will take part in the one day free trip to Washington D.C..  The flight takes the veterans to visit landmarks and memorials.

At the reception, the veterans were able to meet their guardians, who will be chaperoning them for the flight.  They also received matching T-shirts to wear during their visit to the nation’s capitol.

The Honor Flight leaves at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, and returns the same night. There will be a Welcome Home Reception for the veterans when they return in the hangar at the Delta County Airport.  The Welcome Home Reception starts around 7 p.m.

The United States Air Force Band will be playing a special concert for the Honor Flight Veterans in Washington for the second straight year.

Live streaming parties will take place at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette, and at Bay College in both Escanaba and Iron Mountain.  The concert is set to take place at around 3:45 in the afternoon.
