Flood concerns in western-central U.P

Flooding continues to threaten much of central and western Upper Michigan.  For details on the current advisories, flood warnings and watches, click the yellow banner at the very top of the screen.  It will take you to a county-by-county list of National Weather Service issued alerts.

Counties on the map highlighted in green show the counties of Upper Michigan in which a FLOOD ADVISORY has been issued.

FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE CHOCOLAY RIVER...

  CHOCOLAY RIVER NEAR HARVEY AFFECTING MARQUETTE COUNTY

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MARQUETTE HAS ISSUED A
* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR
  THE CHOCOLAY RIVER NEAR HARVEY.
* UNTIL THURSDAY EVENING.
* AT  8 AM WEDNESDAY THE STAGE WAS 9.8 FEET.
* BANKFULL STAGE IS 9.0 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 10.0 FEET.
* FORECAST...THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE TO FALL.
* AT 10.0 FEET -WATER INUNDATES THE ENTIRE PARKING 
LOT AT THE  M-28   BRIDGE...AND THE FISHING PIER BEGINS 
TO BE SUBMERGED.  WATER   INUNDATES LOW LYING AREAS 
ALONG TIMBER LANE AND  RIVERSIDE ROAD   
DOWNSTREAM OF THE RIVER GAUGE SITE.
* AT 9.0 FEET-WATER BEGINS TO INUNDATE THE 
PARKING LOT WHERE  M-28  CROSSES THE CHOCOLAY 
RIVER...AS WELL AS LOW LYING AREAS  ALONG   TIMBER LANE 
AND TOWARDS THE MOUTH OF THE RIVER.

  STURGEON RIVER NEAR NAHMA JUNCTION AFFECTING DELTA CO.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MARQUETTE HAS ISSUED A
* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR
  THE STURGEON RIVER NEAR NAHMA JUNCTION.
* UNTIL THURSDAY EVENING.
* AT  8 AM WEDNESDAY THE STAGE WAS 8.5 FEET.
* BANKFULL STAGE IS 8.0 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 10.0 FEET.
* FORECAST...THE RIVER WILL RISE TO NEAR 8.5 FEET BY 
THIS EVENING.
* AT 8.0 FEET...WATER OVERFLOWS THE BANKS ALONG 
THE RIVER.

BARAGA COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN... 
MARQUETTE COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN... 
* UNTIL 900 PM EDT WEDNESDAY * AT 836 PM EDT
...LAW ENFORCEMENT AND TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED 
MINOR FLOODING OF SEVERAL ROADS CONTINUED ACROSS THE 
ADVISORY AREA. 

THESE INCLUDE ROADS IN BARAGA COUNTY NEAR PELKIE AND IN 
MARQUETTE COUNTY NEAR GREENWOOD RESERVOIR. 

SNOWMELT WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP WATER LEVELS HIGH ACROSS THE 
AREA THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. 

* SOME ROADS THAT HAVE SEEN MINOR FLOODING OR HAVE BEEN 
WASHED OUT INCLUDE NURKALA ROAD...KARENEN ROAD...VIRTA ROAD
...AND KORPI ROAD IN BARAGA COUNTY. 

IN MARQUETTE COUNTY...NORTH ROAD...VALLEY ROAD...AND COUNTY 
ROAD 550 NEAR EAGLES NEST ROAD HAVE SEEN MINOR FLOODING BUT 
WATERS ARE NOW RECEDING. COUNTY ROAD 478 REMAINS WASHED OUT 
ABOUT FOUR MILES EAST OF COUNTY ROAD 601. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM 
THIS STORM WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND 
STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE 
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.
