Learning about food safety in Negaunee
A lesson on Food Safety Transport was held Tuesday morning in Negaunee. The seminar was presented by the Region Eight Healthcare Coalition.
Sessions included the global movement of food, the food import process and key vulnerabilities surrounding the transportation of food.
The goal of the seminar was to teach participants how to use and share information about food safety and security.
The United States imports billions of dollars worth of food from around the world, and has 350 ports at which food enters the country. This can present many opportunities for the food to become contaminated.
The course closed out with an interactive exercise that gave attendees a scenario where food has been contaminated and they had to trace it back to a source.
