Dollar Bay – Tamarack High School students recognized
Students from one Copper Country high school were visited today by Northern Michigan’s representative in Congress.
Doctor Dan Benishek presented an award to Dollar Bay High School’s SOAR—the Student Organization for Aquatic Robotics.
SOAR was recognized in February with the George B. Hartzog Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services in Washington D.C.
The students developed an underwater robot to search for zebra mussels…an invasive species in Lake Superior. The students worked together with the National Park Service and the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative on the project. Future plans include designing a robot that will go deeper and operate without a tether.
