80 years of Bay Cliff
This is the 80th year of operation for Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, and the Marquette Regional History Center is marking the anniversary with a special exhibit.
‘Celebrating 80 Years at Bay Cliff Health Camp’ will be on display through June 1st.
An early 1940s polio epidemic in the U.P. caused the camp to expand its mission and serve young people with physical disabilities, but it started in 1934 as a way to help undernourished kids.
That’s an appropriate goal for a location that had once been known as Baycliffs Dairy Farm before the camp opened.
Bay Cliff director Tim Bennett will be one of the presenters of an open house and oral history presentation about the camp.
That’s taking place at the History Center on Wednesday, April 17th.
