Antique shops in Marquette Co. plan weekend event

This weekend, five antique shops in western Marquette County are jointly planning a “Spring Forward Open House” celebration. Each store will offer free refreshments and special sales to mark the beginning of spring and Sunday’s change to Daylight Savings time.

The cooperative venture is the joint brainchild of Jeff Plumer, owner of Old Bank Building Antiques, Pat Hennessy and Steve LaForais, managers of Lowenstein’s Antique Marketplace, and Carole Prisk, owner of Tickled Pink Antiques, all located on Iron Street in Negaunee.

“(Downtown Negaunee) is a sweet little place for people to come. It’s become a destination, with the antique shops and the bakery, and we just want to get the word out that we’re here. We’re not on the highway, but we’re worth venturing off the beaten track to visit,” commented Hennessy, who has plans to start up a West End antique vendors’ association.

Two Ishpeming antique stores will also be joining in the celebration: the Main Street Antique Mall and 1st Street Antiques. The joint open house will be held at all stores this Saturday and Sunday, March 9th and 10th, from 11 am – 5 pm each day (with the exception of the Main Street Antique Mall, which is Saturday only.)
