Flu shot effectivness information released
After you get a flu shot, you do not expect to catch the flu. Information released by the Center for Disease Control says the odds of still getting sick have been much higher this year.
Previously, the flu shot was estimated to prevent the flu about 62% of the time. Now the effectiveness of the 2013-2013 flu shot is being reported to be about 56%. For seniors, that number is even lower at around 9%.
The study was released so people who have been vaccinated will still seek medical attention if they feel flu-like symptoms, especially elderly people.
Though the peak of the flu season has passed, the risk of catching the flu will continue for a few months.
It is encouraged to still get vaccinated if you have not done so yet this year.
