Trash disposal to cost more in Hancock
The cost of garbage pickup in the city of Hancock is going up. To keep up with the rising cost of collecting and dumping the trash, the city of Hancock is raising the price of rolls of trash bags.
The sale of the bags is used to pay for garbage pickup in the city and must be used for city workers to collect them. Rolls of both small and large bags will increase to $10.00…up from $6.00 now. Bio bag rolls of 25 bags will jump from $8.00 to $12.00. Dumpster charges will also be increased. The monthly readiness to serve charge for businesses and residents will remain unchanged.
City Manager Glenn Anderson says the cost for the city has been climbing for several years so the price increases are somewhat overdue. Last year, the city lost more than $44,000 in garbage collection operation.
At last night’s monthly meeting, the Hancock City Council voted to pass the resolution that is expected to raise between $50,000 and $60,000 dollars in additional revenue.
The new rates are effective March 1st.
