Schoolcraft Co.: 3 injured in 5 vehicle accident
A school bus was one of five vehicles involved in an accident in Schoolcraft County that closed U.S. 2 this morning. The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened just east of the Kewadin Casino in Manistique Township.
They say a westbound logging truck rear–ended a passenger car stopped behind a school bus. The car and the logging truck spun into the eastbound lane of U.S 2 and landed in the ditch. Then, a vehicle traveling behind the logging truck hit another vehicle stopped behind the school bus, knocking it into the bus.
Three people in the vehicles were injured. They were taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.
None of the 25 children on the school bus were injured.
The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Sault Tribal Police.
Snow covered and slippery roads are believed to be contributing factors to the accident.
