2014 State budget could affect roads

Along with investing in education, health care, public safety among other things, Governor Rick Snyder wants a large portion of the state’s 2012 budget dedicated to roads.

In his proposal, Snyder said the state should invest about $1.2 billion more into roads each year. Michigan loses close to $3 million a day due to the devaluing roads.

As a part of the investment, additional spending on roadwork would create new jobs. The repairs would also help to make Michigan roads safer.

Snyder’s proposed plan would likely cost most families in Michigan about $120 more each year with higher fuel taxes and registration fees.

The cost for heavy and commercial vehicles would also be affected.
