Mqt. Food Co-Op deli kitchen
A former restaurant location in downtown Marquette is serving up food again after not seeing any activity for several years.
It’s the former Coney Joint hot dog stand and diner on Washington Street.
The Marquette Food Co-Op purchased the property about a year ago, and it now serves as the co-op’s deli kitchen.
Food Co-Op general manager Matt Gougeon says members had wanted the co-op to have its own deli for years, and he’s very pleased it can now offer one.
The kitchen has been operational since last May, serving the store on Baraga Avenue.
The store is moving this year to 502 West Washington, which is next door to the kitchen.
A covered walkway will be built to connect the two properties.
The Coney Joint closed in late 2008 after it had been in business for a little more than a year.
The location had been a Hungry Howie’s pizza shop prior to that.
