Free help with college financial aid
Marquette County and Alger County High School seniors can get free help this weekend as they apply for college financial aid.
The YMCA of Marquette County and the Marquette Alger College Access Network are hosting Michigan College Goal.
Trained volunteers will be available Sunday Afternoon to help students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Ben Platt of the YMCA’s Superior Village Youth and Family Center says the federal government isn’t the only entity that used the FAFSA form.
Colleges and universities also use it to get almost all of their own financial aid money out to kids.
A Social Security card, a federal income tax return and W-2 tax forms are all needed, along with other information.
But Platt says showing up without it is not a big problem; the information can be filled in later for anyone who attends.
The ‘Y’ of Marquette County is hosting the program from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday.
K.I. Sawyer Elementary School in Gwinn is also hosting it from 1 to 3.
