Sheriff’s Dept. car involved in accident
A Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department patrol car was involved in a car accident Saturday morning.
According to the Michigan State Police, Wakefield Post, the accident happened at 11:26 a.m. CST at the intersection of Peck Street and U.S. 2 in Bessemer.
Mary Strelcheck, 77, of Bessemer, was driving a vehicle and was stopped at a stop sign on Peck Street. She attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. 2 and could not see any traffic coming from the left. There was a large snow bank along U.S. 2.
She pulled out into the path of a Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department patrol car. The patrol car was driving by Deputy Webber. Deputy Webber tried to avoid the crash but was unable to do so.
Deputy Webber was transported to Aspirus Grand View Hospital by Beacon Ambulance for the treatment of unknown injuries. He was later released.
Strelcheck was not transported to the hospital. She sought her own medical treatment.
Michigan State Police troopers were assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and Beacon Ambulance.
