Gwinn students sing with Foreigner
For anyone who enjoys music, getting on stage to sing with a world-famous band would probably be only a dream.
But for students from Gwinn High School, it will be a reality tonight.
The Gwinn High School Chorale has won a contest where the prize is to sing on stage with Foreigner.
They’ll be on stage tonight at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris.
The chorale submitted a video of themselves to Magic 97 radio in Escanaba, and it received the most votes in a competition against eight other high schools.
Chorale director Dave Dagenais says the fact that their video from a concert back in October received more than 157,000 votes was amazing to him.
The students have been rehearsing one of Foreigner’s biggest hits, “I Want To Know What Love Is”.
They’ll sing it alongside the band during the finale of tonight’s show.
Alana Smith says the group members made a big push within the last week to vote as many times as they could, but she says they had quite a bit of community support as well.
Dylan Marpoe says he’s pleased the group has also won $500 for coming in first, saying it could help pay for instruments for the band, trips or other expenses.
Alpena High School finished second in the competition.
Their choral group will sing with Foreigner at the Island tomorrow night.
