MI DEQ Denies County Road 595 Permit
The Marquette County Road 595 project has hit a snag.
The Michigan DEQ says it won’t issue a construction permit for the proposed road.
The DEQ sent the Environmental Protection Agency a letter today to say that the state permit would not be granted.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers now has the authority to process the permit application.
The proposed road would connect US-41 in Humboldt Township with County Road AAA in Michigamme Township.
Rio Tinto would use the road to transport ore from the Eagle Mine to be processed at the old Humboldt Mill site.
