U.P. Girl Scouts Support the Red Cross

The Marquette and Gwinn troops of the Girl Scouts of Northwestern Great Lakes Council are partnering with the local chapter of the American Red Cross by collecting items for a service project called, “Comfy Kits.” These are kits which will directly benefit local victims of a disaster, primarily for those victims who suffer a loss during a house fire or even during a large wildfire such as the Duck Lake fire in this past summer.

While helping others, girls ages 5-18, as well as adult leaders, are learning that when a victim of a disaster loses everything, it is comforting to know that the American Red Cross is there to help with some basic necessities while the victims begin to rebuild their life after such a disaster.

The community is invited to drop off items for this project Saturday, November 17, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Father Marquette Elementary School in Marquette.   Girl scout troops from the Marquette and Gwinn areas, will be gathering to assemble the kits.

There are three kinds of kits being made; adults, children and infants. Items needed include: disposable razors, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shave gel, lotions, tissue packets, shampoo, deodorant, bar soap, wash cloths, face towels, children’s and infant shampoo, Beanie Baby style toys, crayons, coloring books, small diapers, disposable baby bottles, receiving blankets, diaper rash cream, baby blankets baby oil or lotion, baby powder.
