Hikers rescued from Hogsback Mountain
Cell phones played a role in the rescue of a downstate couple lost in the Marquette County woods last night.
The Marquette County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team was dispatched to Hogsback Mountain north of Marquette around 7:30 p.m.
19 year old Steven Claucherty, of Royal Oak, and 18 year old Melinda Fitaian, an NMU student from Birmingham, called 911 saying they were lost. The pair had parked at Wetmore Landing, walked up the mountain and then, as it got dark, lost their way.
They were found in about 90 minutes. Neither hiker was injured.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and the Search and Rescue Team participated in the search.
