Fire Prevention Week in Hancock
To highlight Fire Prevention Week, Hancock students from Barkell Elementary spent the morning learning about fire safety.
The volunteers at the Hancock Fire Department hosted the students and taught them what to do if their house caught on fire.
More than 80 students participated in the event.
Besides having their teacher take a trip on the boom ladder, the students learned these important safety tips…
— Check smoke alarms once a month and change the batteries every year. Nearly two thirds of all home structure fire deaths happened in homes where there was no working smoke detector.
— Have a fire escape plan. Make sure there are two ways out of the home in case of a fire.
