Suicidal Man Locks Down Ironwood Schools
The Ironwood Area Schools were in lockdown Friday because of what police say was a situation with an armed, suicidal man.
Ironwood Public Safety says they got a call about him at 1:30 Central time Friday afternoon.
Officers say that when they arrived at his residence, he came to the window but refused to answer the door.
When they learned he had firearms, they set up a perimeter and called in a SWAT team.
Police placed the school district on lockdown as a precaution.
At about 3 pm, a negotiator reached the man by phone and convinced him to come outside.
He cooperated with police and was taken to Aspirus Grand View Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
No additional details are being released.
