Yorktown continues voyage
A cruise ship that recently visited the Houghton area ran aground in the Detroit River Saturday evening.
The 216 foot Yorktown made two stops in Houghton four weeks ago while touring Lake Superior.
Over the weekend, the ship hit bottom in front of the Wyandotte Yacht Club in Ecorse. The Yorktown left its port in Detroit and was embarking on an eight–day trip through Cleveland, Montreal and Quebec City, Canada when it got stuck.
A commercial tugboat company was called in to free the ship. There were 130 people on board but no evacuations were necessary. No injuries were reported and the Yorktown was able to carry on with its voyage.
