Use Caution Near the Water
4 out of towners found themselves stranded on picnic rocks in Marquette on Friday.
That afternoon, Marquette area beaches had been closed– due to rip current and channel current warnings along the coastline.
Area law enforcement and rescue crews want to remind people of the dangers of swimming in the lake.
Water incidents have been at a minimum this summer, but it is important to follow the safety signs.
Most area residents are aware of the risks of swimming in foul weather and often do a good job of passing those warnings on to visitors.
Often times people choose to ignore the warning signs and when that happens they can be cited for a $50.00 ticket.
Picnic Rocks is never an area that is open to swimming, officials do encourage the public to use the many other beaches and to adhere to the warning signs during dangerous conditions
