Beacon House Benefit Swim
From Beacon House in Marquette:
A benefit Swim will be held in Negaunee at the Teal Lake shoreline Sunday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. in memory of Linda (Ward) Halverson.
Organizer Lisa Wetton has designated Beacon House as the recipient of the event, which is now in it’s second year.
“Linda felt very passionate about supporting the efforts of organizations like Beacon House, which is a non-profit organization which provides families with a place to stay while loved ones are in the hospital, as well as for people to recover after surgery when they have nowhere else to go,” explained Wetton.
“When her children were born prematurely in Green Bay eight years ago, she was able to stay at the Sundara House, and was grateful to be able to stay there and be near her babies.”
Anyone interested in swimming is welcome and encouraged to join Wetton and Halverson’s family and friends in the Sunday morning swim across Teal Lake.
The swim is 3 miles and ends at Al Quaal, Ishpeming.
Participants are asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.
“Please send a donation if you’re unable to join us. No donation is too small; five dollars, ten dollars, anything helps,” said Wetton.
“My goal is to raise a minimum of $1,000.00 in Linda’s memory. She would have loved us doing this.”
Halverson died in boating accident in 2010 while visiting a family cottage in Little Lake.
Organizers ask donors to send checks to Lisa Wetton, 709 Croix Street, Negaunee Mi 49866, payable to Beacon House.
