Lake Linden Sexual Abuse Sentence

A Lake Linden man will spend the next few months in jail for sexually abusing his underage sister.
25–year–old Robert Moilanen was sentenced today for attempted second-degree criminal sexual conduct under a plea agreement.
The original charges — three counts of first-degree CSC and one second-degree count — were dropped.
Moilanen was accused of having sexual relations with his sister for three years while she was between the ages of five and eight years old.
The victim is ten years younger than her brother.
She came forward last year and told a relative about the abuse.
A letter from the family was read in court today as Moilanen stood expressionless.
Moilanen said he now knows what he did was wrong.
Circuit Judge Charles Goodman said Moilanen’s behavior has caused pain and hurt and was unfair to the victim.
Moilanen was sentenced to a year in the Houghton County Jail with credit for 251 days served.
He then has to spend five years on probation and must register as a sex offender.
