Benishek & Stupak Respond to Health Care Ruling
The U.S. Supreme Court issued its long–awaited ruling on the 2010 health care reform law this morning.
The justices have voted 5–4 to uphold the controversial law.
Chief Justice John Roberts says the decision doesn’t mean the law is good or bad policy — it’s only an indication of whether congress has the power to enact the law.
Roberts and four other justices voted that Congress does have that power.
Congressman Dan Benishek says he’s disappointed in the ruling, saying in his opinion the health care law takes the country in the wrong direction.
He says there will likely be an attempt to repeal the law once Congress returns to session.
However, Benishek’s predecessor on Capitol Hill says he’s pleased.
Bart Stupak played a major role in the law’s passage, and he says the winners in this are anyone in America who has a pre-existing condition and can no longer be denied coverage or have their premiums raised because of that condition.
The health care law doesn’t take full effect until 2014.
