Public meeting tonight on M-26 work in Laurium
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host a public informational meeting to discuss 2013 road improvements on M-26 through the village of Laurium . The work is being planned in cooperation with the village, and will include Lake Linden Avenue , and Hecla and Third streets.
MDOT Ishpeming Transportation Service Center (TSC) staff and Laurium village officials will host the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. It will be held at the Laurium Village Hall (310 Hecla Street in Laurium.)
The project includes:
– Third Street : reconstruction with concrete pavement stamped to replicate the original pavement appearance, red-colored sidewalks, historic period lighting, and water main replacement.
– Hecla Street: new red-colored sidewalks, curbs, historic period lighting, and asphalt resurfacing.
– Lake Linden Avenue : reconstruction with asphalt pavement, new curbs and sidewalks, and water main replacement.
The village also plans to reconstruct Osceola Street from Third Street to the hospital at the same time. Work on Osceola Street will include new red-colored sidewalks, historic period lighting, new curbs, and asphalt pavement.
