Structure Fire in Delta County

Escanaba Public Safety Officers were dispatched to a structure fire at 229 Stephenson (previously Johns Northland grocery store) at 8:39 a.m. Thursday.

Fire Engine 34 arrived on scene quickly, finding flames exiting an upper window on the east side of the building. A primary search was conducted for occupants and the fire was located and extinguished.

Officers remained on scene for approximately an hour and fire investigators are working on determining the cause and origin of the fire.

There were no injuries reported. Two blocks of Stephenson were shut down during the incident. Assistance on scene was provided by Rampart EMS, DTE, City Electric and the American Red Cross.
