Congressman Dan Benishek Memorial Day Statement
Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after participating in a national moment of silence coordinated by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to honor America’s fallen soldiers:
“Today we remember the many brave men and women who have given their lives so that Americans can live in freedom. For more than two centuries, selfless Americans have come forth to defend the cause of liberty and make the world a better place. Our soldiers continue to fight in distant lands to protect our way of life. While today’s moment of silence is a small but heartfelt gesture of appreciation, it is also a reminder that we must always remember the sacrifices of the countless airmen, sailors, marines and soldiers who never returned home.
Even as we observe Memorial Day, I also want to thank the many firefighters and emergency personnel who continue to battle the wildfires in Luce County. During a visit to the command center in Newberry on Saturday, I was able to see firsthand the tireless efforts of all those involved in this effort. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals who have lost property and who have been displaced by these fires.”
