M28 not closed yet
As of 10:30 a.m. today, M-28 has not yet been closed. MDOT is still anticipating closing the highway today for Michigan Department of Natural Resources and US Fish and Wildlife fire crews to conduct a back-burn operation from the highway.
More than 1,500 acres have already burned in the blaze. It started over the weekend from a lightning strike.
A wind advisory for the area is making the effort even more dangerous.
MDOT will announce the closure when it occurs, and will post information for motorists in the area.
