MQT Co. Board talks Mining Issues
The Marquette County Board of Commissioners held a committee of the whole meeting tonight. The most debated item on the agenda was an update of the Severance Tax issue.
Since December the board has been working with representatives in Lansing about their concerns with this potential bill. Tonight, an update was given on progress that has been made towards modifying it for the best interests of Marquette County.
The board members are concerned that this bill is too complex. Many commissioners still feel Lansing is taking advantage of the mining industry in Upper Michigan.
Chair Person Pellow said the group in Lansing working directly on this bill will be in Marquette on June 5th to talk with the Commissioners about their concerns.
