Former Sagola Sawmill Burns Down
Fire crews have been at a former sawmill in Dickinson County throughout the day after a blaze destroyed the property this morning.
Aspen Lumber is just off of M–95 in Sagola.
The business has been closed for about three years, so there was no electricity or natural gas hooked up to it.
Cory Roell of the Sagola Township Fire Department says a passer-by called the fire in shortly after 5:30 Central time this morning.
The main sawmill building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
They called for mutual aid, and the Felch, North Breitung and Alpha–Mastodon Fire Departments all responded.
High wildfire danger forced them to remain at the scene many hours later.
The crews needed about an hour and a half to put the flames out.
There’s no word yet about a possible cause.
The state fire marshal will come to the scene to investigate that.
