State Senate to hold additional U.P. Video Conference Thursday
LANSING, Mich.–Upper Peninsula residents will have another opportunity to participate in a Senate Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes Committee. The session Thursday, May 3, will focus on a committee discussion of beach grooming legislation pending before the panel.
“Last week’s videoconference was an excellent trial run at using technology to help ensure the voices of Upper Peninsula residents are heard in the legislative process,” said committee Chairman Senator Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba. “I want to thank all who participated because you delivered an important message about the need to overhaul laws and regulations that unreasonably impact and impede your lives.”
This Thursday, the committee will again broadcast their meeting and take testimony live via videoconference in Escanaba. The meeting is open to the public.
The committee will hear testimony on Senate Bill 1052, sponsored by Casperson. Under the measure, property owners would no longer need to get a permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for most beach grooming activities.
The Senate Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes Committee is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, at 8:30 a.m. in room 210 of the Farnum Building in Lansing, with simultaneous videoconferencing in the Michigan Works Conference Room, 2950 College Ave., in Escanaba.
