Death of Ishpeming Baby Investigated
Troopers from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a 10 1/2 month old baby.
On Saturday, troopers were dispatched to a home in Ishpeming Township on a call about an unresponsive infant. Marquette Central Dispatchers instructed the parents on CPR until troopers arrived.
Ambulance personnel transported the baby to Bell Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Although the case is still being investigated, police say it appears the death may have resulted from a parent sleeping with the child on a sofa.
In a press release from the Michigan State Police, troopers from the Negaunee Post caution that “this tragedy underscores the danger posed by adults sleeping with their infants. The best way to reduce a babies’ risk of sudden unexpected infant death is to make sure they are put to sleep on their back in a safe place apart from an adult.”
