Ontonagon Woman Charged with Fraud, Embezzlement
A 43 year old Ontonagon woman is facing multiple charges of fraud and embezzlement after an investigation of several months. The Copper Country Mental Health of Houghton and Ontonagon found financial discrepancies and contacted the state police. The Ontonagon County Prosecutor’s Office issued a 15 count warrant.
The woman is facing one felony forgery charge and numerous embezzlement charges.
She also faces several counts of embezzlement from a “vulnerable” adult.
The woman – who won’t be identified until she is arraigned – turned herself in, and was released on bond. She is scheduled for arraignment on May 1.
The charges against the woman:
1 Count, Forgery – 14 year felony
1 Count, Embezzlement of $50,000 or more but less than $100,000 – 15 year felony
1 Count Embezzlement – as an agent/trustee
1 Count Embezzlement from a vulnerable adult – 10 year felony
7 Counts embezzlement – from vulnerable adult of $1000 or more, less than $20,000 – 5 year felony
3 Counts Embezzlement – from vulnerable adult $200 or more, less than $1,000
– 1 year misdemeanor each
