McClellan Extension Construction Starts
Construction work on a road construction project that Marquette residents have wanted for decades got underway today.
McClellan Avenue is being extended past its current endpoint at the Peninsula Medical Center.
The construction work along the future path of the street began this morning.
Oberstar Inc. is harvesting the timber.
The project should be complete by the end of October.
Marquette City Engineer Keith Whittington says the additional major north–south travel route will diminish heavy truck traffic on residential streets.
The street extension project costs just under $2.2 million.
The city is paying just over $1 million, and state grants will cover the remainder.
