Two Fires near Manistique Township
Manistique Public Safety and volunteer fire fighters responded to a grass fire on North Gardapee Road in Manistique Township just after four this afternoon.
Authorities say an area of one and a half acres was burning and spreading quickly towards a heavily wooded area. The Michigan DNR and nearby residents were able to assist in quickly extinguishing the fire.
Authorities say the fire started at the residence of Brooke Peters, who was burning debris in a burn barrel. No one was injured in the fire.
Also at four this afternoon Manistique Public Safety assisted the Inwood Township Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service with fighting a wildland fire at a camp near Thunder Lake in Schoolcraft County.
Manistique Public Safety has issued an outdoor burning ban for The City of Manistique and Manistique Township located in Schoolcraft County. With extremely high fire conditions the ban is expected to last until rainfall comes to the area.
