Kennecott Mine Assessment
Marquette County and local township governments had to wait much longer than they wanted to for an official estimate of the Eagle Mine.
Michigamme Township officials, and Kennecott Eagle Minerals, are not challenging the estimate.
Late last week, the state geologist gave Marquette County an assessment of just over $190,000,000.
That’s based on partial completion of the mine this year.
There’s still concern on how the mine will be taxed.
If the method is changed, the county and local townships could lose hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
That meeting will take place in Lansing on the 28th, two weeks from today.
Escanaba State Senator Tom Casperson, officials from Governor Rick Snyder’s administration, and others will be there.
