Gwinn Ice Bowling
A Marquette County event is depending on cold temperatures to become a success.
The Forsyth Township Fire Department is hosting a bowling fundraiser event.
The only catch — this bowling event is outside on the ice.
The second annual Ice Bowling Tournament will be held this weekend.
Competitors will be competing on the ice lanes to raise money for the fire department.
No matter how skilled you might be on wooden or synthetic indoor lanes, it doesn’t make a difference out on the ice.
Township firefighter Greg Ketola says it’s so different that actual bowling experience is probably a hindrance — strikes and spares are rare.
The fundraiser runs Saturday from 11 to 5 and Sunday from noon until 4 at Peter Nordeen Park in Gwinn, and you can sign up on scene.
There will even be a friendly competition between Marquette County’s fire departments.
The department team that bowls the highest score while wearing its bunker gear will be the winner.
