U.P. State Trooper Gets Award
At a special ceremony in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue presented Trooper Adam Laninga of the Sault Ste. Marie Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award.
On July 13, 2011, Laninga was dispatched to a call involving a 71-year-old man who was having a heart attack. Laninga arrived on the scene within minutes and began medical aid. A Baraga Police Department officer later arrived, and together the two administered an AED and performed CPR on the man until medical personnel arrived to transport him to the hospital.
In presenting Laninga with the MSP Lifesaving Award, the department recognizes if not for his quick actions and first aid techniques, the man may not have survived.
Laninga enlisted with the department in 2008, graduating as a member of the 121st Trooper Recruit School. Prior to serving at the Sault Ste. Marie Post, he served at the L’Anse Post.
