Bluesday Tuesday Packed House
Marquette County residents were feeling the blues on this Tuesday evening…It was standing room only at Tonight’s edition of Bluesday Tuesday at the Peter White Public Library.
The well known UP jazz duo, Kirsten Gustafson and Dave Zeigner were the featured performers. The talented pair entertained audience members with melodic tunes highlighting the contrast between blues and jazz music.
Vocalist Kirsten Gustafson’s debut album, “You Taught my Heart to Sing” was released in 1992 with liner notes written by legendary lyricist, Sammy Cahn. Kirsten’s magnificent vocal skills have been showcased in a myriad of live settings from the stages of the famed Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland to Paris and intimate supper clubs since.
Dave Ziegner, an accomplished Bassist/Guitarist/Pianist and composer, spent many years playing Brazilian/Latin jazz in the San Francisco Bay area. In 2005 he was awarded with the City of Marquette’s Community Performing Arts honor. Dave has performed with such greats as Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer and others in a variety of styles and can usually be found on the electric or upright bass.
Together, the duo has recently released their first CD entitled “So Many Stars” This disc is a balanced combination of rich vocals and tantalizing jazz guitar melody. Beautifully crafted recordings of classics from the romantic-jazz era embodied with a bossa nova feel brings out the richness of the songs in their purest form.
