New Munising State Police Detachment Location
The Michigan State Police transitional detachment in Munising, at the former Munising Post, will move to a site at the Alger Correctional Facility. It will become the “Munising Detachment of the Negaunee Regional Post.”
“Even though the Munising Post is closing, troopers will remain in the area and service will continue uninterrupted,” stated Lieutenant Robert Pernaski, Commander of the Negaunee Regional Post. “By moving to a regional service delivery model, commanders will gain more flexibility in scheduling troopers and responding to emerging public safety needs within the region/”
The new detachment will be located at N6141 Industrial Park Drive in Munising Township.
It’s part of the on-going consolidation of the state police posts that started in 2011. Statewide, 62 posts were reduced to 29. Consolidations will continue in phases this year. In the next phase, all remaining Upper Michigan posts will consolidate. That change is expected by next summer.
