Al Quaal Tube Slide Season
The city of Ishpeming is about ready to open one of its winter recreation areas for the season, but now Mother Nature has to help out.
The tube slide at the Al Quaal Recreation Area has not opened for the season yet because of high temperatures and lack of snow.
City Public Works staff say they need eight to 12 inches of packed snow for the slide to operate.
That way, when the city’s groomer runs over the snow, it doesn’t rip up the ground in the process.
But with more snow on the way, DPW staff say they intend to open the slide on Saturday, and at least one person was testing it out this afternoon.
