Two Killed in Mackinac County Plane Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board is in Mackinac County today to investigate the fatal plane crash that took place there over the weekend.

Shortly before noon yesterday, a Coast Guard air crew received a signal from an emergency locator transmitter.

The signal was coming from a spot about three miles north of Saint Ignace and about a hundred yards from the shore of Lake Huron.

When the air crew investigated, it found the airplane’s wreckage.

Both people on board were dead.

29–year–old Joseph Pann, Jr. of St. Ignace was the pilot.

52–year–old Tom Phillips of Kirkland, Washington was the passenger; he was an executive with Amazon.com.

Officials say the single–engine plane left St. Ignace for Mackinac Island Saturday night.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.
