Drunk-Driving Accident Leads to Weapons Arrest
Saturday’s snow and ice led to traffic accidents in many areas of the U.P., and one of those accidents led to something else.
A drunk-driving accident in south Marquette resulted in one person injured and one of the drivers arrested on weapons charges.
Marquette City Police say it happened shortly before 5:30pm Saturday on South Front Street at the intersection with Hampton Street.
The driver of a 2011 Toyota pickup heading north on South Front Street crossed the center line while trying to turn left onto Hampton.
The truck hit a southbound 1999 Volkswagen.
Then, a second southbound vehicle hit the Volkswagen after the initial collision.
The Vokswagen driver, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to Marquette General for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The people in the other two vehicles were not hurt.
However, police arrested the driver of the Toyota pickup, a 55-year-old man, for operating while intoxicated and for two misdemeanor weapons violations.
There’s no word on either of those drivers’ names.
The Marquette Fire Department and Marquette General EMS helped out at the scene.
